Martha Frizzell

Martha Frizzell, Credit and Collection Manager at Riceland Foods, has dedicated an incredible 63 years to the company. She also serves as supervisor of the accounts receivable department, overseeing critical financial operations that keep the company running smoothly. When Martha first started, Riceland was known as Arkansas Rice Growers, and she was one of just six applicants for her starting role. After passing a hiring test, she began her career in accounts payable.

Within two years, Martha expanded her responsibilities to inventory control while continuing to handle accounts payable in the afternoons. Soon after, an opening in accounts receivable became available, and Martha moved into the role—one she has never left. “I’ve never told them no,” she says, reflecting on the path that has defined her career.

Martha quickly grew into every role she was given, putting her best effort into each task. Her days today are demanding, managing all of Riceland’s money and ensuring every transaction balances perfectly. She oversees sales and determines whether customers can receive loads, shouldering enormous responsibility with precision and care.

Despite the challenges, Martha finds her work meaningful because of the people around her. “They call me their work mom,” she laughs. Her team’s camaraderie and support make even the most stressful days enjoyable, and her dedication has made her a pillar of the Riceland family.

To Martha, growing good means helping the company—and the farmers it serves—succeed. She strives to improve processes, manage expenses carefully, and maximize efficiency so that farmers get the resources they need. “If the farmer can’t succeed, we can’t,” she explains. Her commitment to doing her very best for the department and the coop is evident in every decision she makes.

One of her proudest accomplishments is the development of the accounts receivable department itself. “When they asked me to take on this job, it was myself and one other person,” she recalls. Over the years, she has built every procedure, ensuring the department operates smoothly and effectively. “I’ve been a part of developing all of the procedures in my department, and that is very rewarding,” she says.

When Martha learned she had been nominated for a Grow Good Award, she was humbled and honored. “It’s very meaningful to be recognized by your peers, and to become a finalist is even more meaningful,” she says. “Thank you very much to those who nominated me—I appreciate the confidence that shows.”

For Martha, the motivation to keep giving her best comes from within. “I work because I want to. I’ve worked a lot longer than most people, and I want to be part of something bigger than myself,” she says. Her strong work ethic, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond have defined her decades at Riceland.

Reflecting on her career, Martha notes that while much has changed over the years, her love for the work and commitment to putting Riceland and the farmers first has never wavered. Her decades of service, dedication, and leadership are truly inspiring. We are deeply grateful for Martha’s contributions and hope to continue learning from her example for many years to come.
