Tyrone Nash

“My dad, he raised me and taught me how to do it. He always said, ‘Look up, don’t look down. Your word is all you live on. That’s what you got."

Tyrone Nash farms rice, soybeans and corn with his wife Sonia in St. Francis County. Farming is nothing new to the Nash family. He is a tenth-generation farmer, who grew up farming with his dad.

“My dad farmed for 50 years before he retired, and my son will be the eleventh generation,” he said.

Harvest is his favorite time of the year. He loves running the combine, the challenge of trying to get the crop in, and doing the best he can do. Nash said one goal he sets each year is to get the crop in the ground in a timely manner to create efficiencies.

He shared that the cooperative brings value to his operation through convenience and service.

“I get my trucks back quick. Riceland has some really good guys working there, and I’ve built a pretty good relationship with a few of them,” he said. “I check all my stuff on [the Riceland App] when I’m cutting and hauling to town. I can check my loads and keep an eye on it.”

Agriculture is a tough industry, and Nash received solid advice from his father to encourage him to keep up the work on the farm after his retirement in 2015.
