Farmer-members started our planting season earlier this year than in previous years. Most of the rice crop was planted before the spring rains, and the beans were not far behind.

Members reported excellent rice field yields before the rains from Hurricane Francine hit. Overall yields should still be good after factoring in the downed rice. USDA is forecasting long grain production up 8% compared to last year.

The 2025 budget reconciliation package, signed on July 4, includes many key priorities for agriculture and delivers major reforms in tax, labor, and conservation programs. While the Farm Bill is still pending, this progress offers hope for a “Skinny Farm Bill” later this fall.
